Here we go again.

August 23rd, 2007 | by TJ |

Ok, so you might have seen this post over at BRK by now – the goal in the new bet is the Wintersaber mount.

That’s right.

I’m going to get me a Riding Hobbes.

If you’re not familiar with our last bet, the Firefly bet, you can read the tale:

BRK lays out the bet.

My summary of day one.

BRK tries to add new terms mid-bet.

Day 4, TJ-style.

Day 5 – BRK is still hanging on to feeble hopes of victory.

Then he decides to heap on the abuse.

But alas – TJ-lotta always comes out on top.

BRK concedes.

The prize, which should be arriving at my door today.

So, anyway, this here is the new bet. I have until October 22nd to grind up to exalted and obtain a Riding Hobbes.

If I do it, I get another dollar. If I can’t do it, BRK gets a dollar, PLUS he demanded his original, Firefly dollar back as well (personally, I think that’s just poor sportsmanship, but I don’t intend on losing). Choose your sides now, because I won’t have you weak types trying to crawl over to my side of the fence when my guaranteed victory is more apparent!

I headed on up to Winterspring last night – didn’t do much, just running around a bit – I don’t think I’ve been there since I dinged 60 there a year ago.

Thinking about it… I think I dinged 60 on a Hobbes.

Are there no other extraneous circumstances to this bet like the last one? I assume you can leave if you want to, or buy things, and get bandages, etc. Either way, your patience and wherewithal put the rest of us to shame. I’m not sure that I have the patience to wait two months to start heaping abuse on BRK for losing again. Good Luck, and GO TJ!!

You’ll win, BRK makes the really horrible bets.

Although, I do think it sucks to return the firefly dollar…if you were to lose.

Awww, too bad we’re not on the same server, I’d totally go help.

Though….being a warlock, it’s not like you’d NEED the help.

Seed of destruction for the win!

Poor BRK, he just can’t learn, can he?

    /sign TJ side!

It’s funny because I have both a 70 hunter and a 70 lock, so being a fan of both blogs is kinda amusing to me.

The one thing I’ve always loved about my lock is the numerous ways to kill things…

    1. Round em up, DoT and SoC
    2. Round em up, DoT and HoT
    3. Round em up, Sacrifice and Hellfire
    4. Round em up, DoT and RoF

The list goes on and on. I don’t remember much up there, so I’m not sure how close these mobs are together. Hopefully they are close so you can kill loads at a time.

When you win, you can tell BRK that you are riding Hobbe’s mother :)

    Good luck TJ… TJ FTW!

Good luck with it though I bet BRK might come in and start killing off mobs that you need much like the firefly. This is a bigger undertaking than the firefly by far and I think you should at least request 2 BRK dollars for it. Though I’m not sure how much sanity you’ll have left after this as after reading what’s required for it its going to get dull real quick.

Question! When the Trainers first laid eyes on you yesterday, did they start you at 0/3000 neutral rep, or halfway through?

See, I was stupid and impatient and overall very girly and couldn’t stop myself from wandering up that rock just to see the Frostsaber and Trainer, thus announcing my existance to the faction around level 56 or so. When I came back to pick up the quest at 60, my rep had rotted down to 0. I realise now that I might have done myself a huge dis-service with that one…

Also! I find that as a level 70 with nice gear, I can take on 3-4 of the first quests mobs easily. I’ll gather them, make sure they all have pain, toss mind blast at a couple, bubble and wand away at whicvever has highest HP. Then I read a magazine or a website until the sound stops. Makes for less-boring grinding.

I ground upto 0/6000 with these guys at level 60. The last 1500 rep worth was because I wanted a nice round number! Anyway – The bit that will drive you the most mad is NOT the killing of mobs! Nope – It will be the running up and down from Winterfall Village to the Trainer and back again! In fact at level 70 you will probably spend more time making this run than killing Winter Furballs.

Good luck, your’ll need it :p

@Xeln – I’m allowed to leave, do runs, get my own bandages, whatever I want to do – I just need to finish before midnight on October 22.

@Pie – Dude. I totally agree. I already earned that dollar. I can’t UN-earn it! But he’s insisting on it. Laaaame.

@Mana Battery – Started at 0. I’d never seen the guy before.

@Stu – ah, no thanks. One competition at a time for me. You can get in line behind BRK for the next ridiculous bet if you’d like though.

504 quests, 82 rep each as a human if my calculations are correct. 19 quests until 1500, then you get all of the kill quests. Get your epic mount and be prepared to run a lot. Imo, spec destruction for the AoE capabilities and get a pocket healer.

Hey, never said anything bout having a healer :P

Since you are demo, send in your felguard and make sure you leave cleave on and round up as many as possible, SoC, tab, SoC, and repeat. They will be dropping like flies. Just make sure you have pleanty of bandages to lessen the time to actually have to eat or drink.

Personally, I don’t care who wins (but still hope you do, as the rewards of rep grinds feel AWESOME)

And when the time comes, a picture of you on your mount next to Hobbes will be hilarious and worhty of many witty photoshops

I’ve been grinding rep for Thunder Bluff for a Kodo before I get to 40. I made revered so I need to complete my 1K Needles quests and then find more Taurens to get quests from. Great thing is, you go do the quests at max level and get 0 exp for and you can keep your place in a BG bracket. Good fun for me at least.

I spent some time up in Winterspring on my Dwarf Hunter, in fact, he had a bear as a pet from there. I had to kill a ton of furlbog to get my rep back from hated or run the guantlet each time from the festival zone (moon whatever) Then I got my FP and woot, bite me furballs. Although winterfire or whatever potion FTW! BIG DWARF~

/Me sides with TJ. For the record, BRK is playing it like a VERY SORE LOOSER! Too bad he is gonna miss another bet and give you another dollar.

I’m only 51 now, but in 7 more levels I’ll start my grinding for the cheap epic mount! Don’t worry, I’m on a different realm (I think!), and if I’m not, I’ll help you!

Did BRK really think that he’d win this one?

ESPECIALLY since the next patch is upping the rep gains for all the old-world factions?

    *shakes head*

Brian, the next patch is only upping rep gains for 3 factions only: “The following old-world factions have had their acquisition rate significantly increased: Cenarion Circle, Argent Dawn, Timbermaw Hold.”

So, that doesn’t help this task, which is understandable, seeing that this 100% speed mount doesn’t need 150 riding skill! Otherwise this would turn to be THE mount for all that are now getting to 60 (alliance side).

I keep seeing people say that this is a “cheap mount”. You do realize that for the time it takes to grind that rep out you could EASILY grind more cash than it takes to get an epic mount, especially if you are grinding for cash in outlands, even at level 59. This mount is NOT cheaper, and even though you can get it with the lower riding skill, you will surely ding 60 long before you kill the 7-8 THOUSAND mobs you have to kill to get this mount. It is a catch 22. There is no way to get the rewards other than kill stuff, the killing of that stuff will get you to 60, where you could get an epic mount anyway.

This mount is not cheaper, it is just pretty. And knowing TJ, BRK was EXACTLY right when he mentioned her having a

Bob, don’t forget that a 58+ will be getting XP and vendor trash to sell while grinding those mobs: it’s probably less boring to just grind the gold and buy a normal 150 riding epic mount, but this one can be an easy alternative to have a fast ride, even if only attainable at 60, without lashing out the 800+g on the training… Add to that the Timbermaw rep that you can get at the same time and it’s a pretty decent, even if boring, grind to get XP, gold, cheap swift ride, and rep…

As for the macro, something easy like this (untested):

    /dismount [mounted,noflying][mounted,flying,modifier]
    /stopmacro [mounted]
    /cleartarget
    /target BRK
/use [exists] Reins of the Winterspring Frostsaber; [flyable] whatever-flying-mount-you-have; Summon Dreadsteed
    /say [exists] Here Hobsie…

Something like this should do the trick! It will dismount if mounted, but if flying will require to press some modifier key (SHIFT/ALT/CTRL); otherwise it will attempt to target BRK and, if successful, will use “Hobes ride”; otherwise will use a flying mount if possible or your swift warlock mount. If it could target BRK, it will also say “Here Hobsie…”

Hope this helps and if it doesn’t work and needs some tweaking just let me know!

It’s a helluva grind. I’m currently at 13,000/21000 (8,000 away from exalted) and am REALLY tired of it.

Ignore the advice on how to kill the mobs; that’s the easy part. Buy a fast mount and a riding crop ASAP because the run is BY FAR the worst part of this.

If I hadn’t gotten myself to revered grinding timbermaw rep, I would have quit long ago.

There’s a reason why you don’t see any of these around. This is the hardest rep grind in the game.

TJ!!!! I DON’T KNOW IF YOU HAVE THOUGHT OF THIS, BUT GET INTO A PET DUEL WITH HOBBES!!

If BRK doesn’t hit the mend pet button or Bestial wrath… Your Fel Gaurd will surely kick the snot out of Hobbes. So make it very clear… NO HELP!!

I know this because Felix got into a pet duel with one of those pesky ass Fel Guards, and died horribly… It’s ok though, because on the next go round, the Warlock and I jumped in the fight. It was a good fight but I won and claimed Felix’s pride back!
