I love this kid.
June 9th, 2008 | by TJ |Yeah, I’m doing the YouTube thing again, but you would not believe the crap you can find on there! If I could live in the internet, I would live in YouTube. Seriously.
Ok, that was weird.
Anyway, I don’t know if you recall, but last year, I got all excited about Paul Potts who won Britain’s Got Talent.
While Paul was the well-deserved winner, the videos of the auditions showed quite a few other talented people. This guy and his monkey puppet seriously STILL get me busting up laughing every time I watch, even though I know what’s coming, and this here is the tiny singing 6 year old who lost to Paul in the finals. She is also obviously some kind of freakishly talented mutant bred for the quality of tiny heartbreaking adorableness.
But another one that really got my attention last year, in watching the auditions section on YouTube, was this little dancer guy, George Sampson.
Now that is one talented little guy. However, in my excitement about Paul Potts, and Connie, and the monkey guy, it didn’t really register that I didn’t see George in any of the videos of the finals. Unfortunately, as it turns out, he had not made it to the semi-finals which is a serious, serious shame.
So, over the weekend, I am browsing through YouTube videos (again, as I said, I would live there. I bet they have air conditioning), and I come across this year’s Britain’s Got Talent audition videos and semi-finals and such. First one I came across was this young man here, a singer who is bullied all the time in school and such.
I saw that and immediately started looking for the semi- and finals videos – that kid HAD to be the winner, right? HAD to. But over in the related videos section, I saw a familiar face…
It’s George! It’s George! Andrew who? IT’S GEORGE GUYS!
So this time, he made it through to the semi finals.
And, holy crap, Internet, holy crap – at the semi-finals, he did THIS:
I… he… you… can you even… Crimeny! I must have watched that a hundred and two times this weekend. Seriously. And I deliberately avoided looking at anything past the semi-finals, or reading any information in the info section of the videos, or looking at… well, ANYTHING that came up in the search results aside from exactly what I was looking for because, while Andrew was awesome, and while there was also some opera singing girl who was supposed to be pretty good, and all kinds of impressively talented people, I knew that if I found out the George Sampson DID! NOT! WIN!, I would slide into a terrible funk the likes of which have not been seen since America decided it would not have Elliot Yamin as its idol.
I still haven’t really forgiven you, America.
ANYWAY!
Dear Internet,
If you were not yet aware of George Sampson, now you are.
You’re welcome.
Your pal,
TJ

He is quite the dancer, and quite the storyteller. The sympathy vote goes a long way.

The song he danced to (Singing in the rain regidy-digady-mix) got to number one over here, on downloads alone, Britain is full of fanbois… ^_^
Oh, and two posts to 700!

Amazing! Anyone who does something with Singing in the Rain gets Clockwork Orange Points from me. 8oP I love BGT. American Idol can shove it because the people on it seem so robotic. BGT seems to have more real people on it. And last year I showed the Connie vids to my 4/5 yr olds. They thought she was so cool and wanted to sing like her. 8o)

He won! He totally won! I think I have a new hero (and Singin’ in the Rain is the most amazing song. :3 It was stuck in my head all afternoon… and the dance was amazing).
I’m rather sad that Andrew only got third place though. Pie Jesu that beautifully and wonderfully at his age? Man. I want that type of voice.
I’m in agreement with Bell though. They ate several hours of my life… but I gladly gave it up. [ Had to suffer through irked household units though! Well worth it. ]
Oh, and you’ve inspired me to cover America’s Got Talent on EG… (And the show tonight did too). I guess I’ll be an addict for the next while. o.o
