New experiences.

December 19th, 2007 | by TJ |

A couple of nights ago, Doom and I were trading tells back and forth in game about my recent trip to the grocery store, and what I had bought. A trip to the grocery store is Big News for me, people.

Anyway, talking about the things I had purchased, I mentioned to Doom that I had told myself I would try at least one new thing, and had decided that that thing would be turkey bacon.

Now, you need to know I am NOT a big fan of turkey masquerading as other meats. I like turkey. It should just be turkey. My mom, she makes this meatloaf? And it’s my favorite thing she makes. And sometimes she would TELL me she had made meatloaf, but I would know. I would KNOW! It was not my beloved meatloaf. It was made with IMPOSTER MEAT. Ground turkey is an abomination.

So, Doom says to me, do me a favor. Write about your turkey bacon experience from start to finish.

Well, that’s a bit weird, but ok.

So, shortly after buying the turkey bacon, I went downstairs and got it out of the fridge so I could prepare it to be ready to go on top of my boca burger dinner.

It smelled like cat food.

CAT. FOOD. I cannot continue with this story.

Sorry, Doom.

Bacon comes from a pig, The End!!! The smell of cooking bacon is one of the best things. If brussel sprouts could smell like frying bacon I might consider letting them in the house.

Seeing that you were using a Boca patty…you should hav bought the Morningstar bacon. My sister makes it so often and its not too bad. You are right Turkey should be Turkey…no bacon…no ground meat…no patties. Just a whole turkey…and maybe Turkey soup…

I’ve had turkey bacon before and it did not smell like cat food and was in fact quite tasty. And I wouldn’t call turkey bacon imposter food it would be imposter food if it labeled itself as only bacon without adding the turkey before. That meatloaf you had also was not an imposter as there are various meats that can and are used to make meatloaf so make sure to specify to your mom what kind of meat to use for your meatloaf.

I’m from sunny old Scotland and just cannot graps the concept of this “Meatloaf” what is it? where did it come from? did someone kill that nice singing man and butcher his carcass for food?

We have haggis…is it anything like that?

Now i know what they use to make haggis (go look it up)….and i gotta say….not a fan. Should i fear the Meatloaf too?

    @ Beaker

Meatloaf is Groundbeef w/ a few things added. it depends on whos making it to whats added but over all its something to be enjoyed, and tastes much better than Haggis. Yes I am Scottish also and caught the refrence. Its like asking some one over for Chittlins.

Another nasty thing, imo, is chicken sausage.

Of course, I don’t like chicken so maybe I am biased.

Turkey bacon = decaf coffee, non-alcoholic beer, fat free twinkies…things that just aint right!!

@Beaker, I was in Navy and spent some time in Holy Loch…I was introduced to Haggis at 2am after bout 10 pints of Tennant’s lager..it tasted good then…unfortunately someone decided to tell me what goes in it at 3am…/hurl..full body convulsion…/shudder
What possessed someone to cook that and think it would taste good?

Agree with Boffors on this one, the smell of bacon is one of the best ways to wake up in the morning.

Every Robbie Burns day here at work, we have a few Scots that work here, they do a poetry reading ‘Ode to a Haggis’ then actually serve the Haggis in the cafeteria! Now I’m one that will only eat it after a few pints, but my bosses didn’t see that as ‘appropriate for the workplace’…. BAH!

… I’ve also tried Chitlins, and meatloaf. I couldn’t finish the ‘serving’ of Chitlins… they didn’t make a sauce strong enough to mask the taste! LOL! Meatloaf is actually pretty yummy when made right, theres also a ‘deli’ version of it thats pretty good in a sandwich too…

LOL funny. My brother was put on a low cholesterol diet told me that cholesterol was what made food taste good.
