no, you do NOT want the puff test. i had it once not knowing what it was, refused to have the other eye done after i literally had a breakdown, and the next time i went i said “no air” and the doctors got pissed! still, they couldnt make me do it…

yea the puff test is horrid. I avoid it all costs and found a nice eye dr that doesn’t use the puff but the numb/dialate your eyes test. Though having your eyeballs tingle like when your hand is asleep is just as weird but i think better than the puff. Also if you lucky you get those wonderful black don’t i look like stevie wonder glasses when you leave. Luckily i don’t need glasses yet.

Thank you very much for this post actually! I haven’t gotten new glasses since about 2001 or 2002 and I really need them, but am coincidentally dirt-ass-poor and I’m not too impressed with my insurance.

Brierley, the only other glaucoma test I knew of used a numbing agent, not dilation. That’s because the testing tool is actually going to be pressed on your eye. (it’s an applanation tonometer for those who care.) On the other hand, it’s still a “stare at the bright light so you can’t see what I’m actually doing” test.

TJ, thanks for being the test subject to see if online ordering works (grin). If it does, I may be chasing that avenue for my next pair.
