And the award for best rest areas goes to…
March 13th, 2009 | by TJ |… Kentucky!
What’s up, Internet? How you holding up? We had a rough couple of days there ourselves finishing up the packing and all, but we set out on our drive on Wednesday. It’s been an adventure to say the least, and I’ll be updating with the stories as soon as possible.
Mostly, though, as you’d hope, it’s been pretty uneventful. I am coming to you right now from a hotel room in Amarillo, Texas at about 6 in the morning. We’ll be setting out again for the day soon. We did over 700 miles our first day and over 900 miles yesterday, so we’ll actually be getting in to Phoenix this afternoon assuming all goes well traffic-wise.
I know a couple of people had sent us emails about trying to meet up for lunch or something like that, and I’m really sorry I totally punked out and didn’t email you guys when we were passing through. But let me tell you, as Phil said, internet apparently hasn’t been invented in most of Illinois yet, and we’ve really just been steaming through this whole trip. And to tell the truth, we wouldn’t have been great company – as the days go on, our conversations devolve into arguments about desert bears and the inability of Oklahomans to merge.
ANYway. We’ve been through Maryland, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma and now we’re in Texas. Today is the rest of Texas, New Mexico and then just Arizona, so I should be safely installed in my new place by this evening. Phil and I are both trying to keep Twitter updated as we’re going, but it’s on and off. You can see mine over in the right sidebar, and also you can see both or either of us at @TemerityJane and @Philogical.
See you soon, Internet!,

Glad to hear things have gone smooth and uneventfully. That’s always the best you can hope for when driving cross country.
Also, as a transplant to Oklahoma from the Pacific Northwest (Yay, Seattle!) I can vouch for the fact that Okies don’t know how to merge. Or use blinkers. Or really drive. Especially in anything other than bone-dry and sunny. Further, they start complaining about “traffic” if the freeway slows down to slightly more than 40.

My favotite Texas fact…Never ask a man where he’s from, because if he’s from Texas he’ll tell you and if not you don’t want to embarrass him.

I drove through Kentucky long ago with my mom on a road trip, say what you will about the South but I remember it being a very beautiful place.
That’s all I got.
